EDO ASSEMBLY PASSES TWO BILLS : BILL TO REPEAL FORESTRY LAW AND BILL TO ESTABLISH EDO STATE BUILDING CONTROL AGENCY.

On resumption of plenary the confirmation of Mrs Violet Obi- Okoro suffered a setback over the disagreement on the mode of her screening by the house committee on Rules, business and Government house.

During the consideration of the report of the House standing committee on government house, rules and business, at the committee of a whole, the committee presented four findings and one recommendation.

The committee said the nominee, Violet Obi-Okoro was invited and screened, and recommended that she should be confirmed as the the Managing Director, Edo State Skill Development Agency.

Some of the lawmakers appealed that the consideration be deferred to a later date for the nominee to appear in person before the House.

The speaker, Rt Honourable Marcus Onobun thereafter noted that the committee had done a great job at the screening stage; however, the nominee should be invited to have an interface with the House.

The House has also passed a bill for a law to establish Edo State Development and Building Control Agency 2022 and a bill for a law to repeal the Forestry Law 1968 and to establish the Edo state Forestry commission.

Meanwhile, the consideration of a bill for a law to repeal the Town and Country Planning Law (Cap. 165) Laws of Bendel State, 1976 was deferred to a later date.
