The member representing Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben federal constituency, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun KSC celebrated the national event with his constituents and Nigerians in general, acknowledging the significance of the liberty it has given to Nigerians.
Rt. Hon. Marcus noted the importance of the commemoration to the effect of its system on how citizens are governed at all levels and by all arms. He said “The event which had a shift from the usual 29th May ab initio to June 12 in recent years by the executive directive of the previous administration due to trajectory of events in our democratic evolution in Nigeria, is a pointer of how the system of governance is of concern and affects the well being of every citizen.
The legislator elucidated the transition of government systems in Nigeria upon her independence cum the challenges and successes recorded until the current, being adopted for National interest.
Hon. Onobun noted, governance which isn’t people-centric in policy, programmes or project and more importantly human capital development shouldn’t be considered thus, the relevance of democracy in this dispensation which features inclusion, unity, accountability, flexibility and transparency.
The lawmaker in a close noted that this year’s national theme; “25years of Enduring Democracy: Prospect for the Future” is a call to reflection by citizens cum political office holders to be intentional about the electoral process vis-a-vis outcome of competent stewardship at official service; united as an one to the patriotic call towards a purposeful lead. “The world we see is the country in which we live, we must invest in our values and promote our heritage and live in dignity our true identity”, he added.
