The member representing Esan West, Esan Central, and Igueben Federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Marcus Iziengbeaya Onobun ksc, has joined members of the House Standing Committee on Solid Minerals to decry the menace of illegal mining and the negative effects on the nation’s economy.
Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun alongside other members and the Chairman of the House Committee on Solid Minerals, Hon. Gaza Jonathan, in an interactive session with stakeholders in the Mining Sector, called for a National emergency to curb the high rate of illegal mining in the country.
According to the Chairman, the nation loses over nine billion US dollars annually due to the menace of illegal mining.
Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun in his contributions charged stakeholders in the Mining sector to put all hands on deck to end this ugly trend of illegal mining in the country.
