Bill for a law to repeal the forestry law, 1968; enact a law to establish the Edo State Forestry Commission

Edo State House of Assembly has mandated it’s committee on Rules Business and Government House to interface with the State government to fine-tune clearance of the Chairman and members of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB.

The development followed a letter by the State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki requesting the confirmation and consideration of Mrs.Ozavize Salami as the Chairman of SUBEB.

The letter by the State Governor was as a result of the expiration of the tenure of the SUBEB Chairman and executive members of the board .
Observation by the member representing Esan North Constituency One(1), Rt.Hon. Francis Okiye was made to the fact that the letter requested the confirmation of only the SUBEB Chairman.
Deputy Speaker, Rt.Hon Roland Asoro who is also the Chairman House Standing Committee on Education argued in support on the need to draw the attention of the state government to effect the necessary correction.

The Speaker, Rt.Hon Marcus Onobun directed the House standing committee on government House, rules and business to interface with the State government to ascertain the required number of nominees for further action.

Also at the plenary, Debate on the consideration of a Bill to repeal the town and country planning law CAP 165 laws of Bendel State ,1976 and to make provisions for the administration of physical planning , urban and regional development in Edo state was led by the Majority Leader Rt.Hon Henry Okhuarobo and supported by other members.
The Speaker, Rt.Hon Marcus Onobun referred the Bill to the House standing committee on physical planning and urban development to fine-tune and report back for further action.

The House Committee on Community Development during plenary were also assigned to within one week to submit it’s report on a Bill for a law to establish Edo State development and building control agency 2022.

A Bill for a law to repeal the forestry law, 1968; enact a law to establish the Edo State Forestry Commission ; provide for the preservation and conservation of forests and for various matters relating to land use in Edo State also scaled through second reading .

The Speaker, commended efforts of members in advancing merits of the bill.
The Bill subsequently scaled through second reading and committed it to the House committee on environment sustainability to report back in one week . 

The House then adjourned sitting to Monday 24th, October 2022.
