Edo Assembly Speaker charges youths to close ranks ahead 2023 general elections (Photos)

Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Marcus Onobun ksc has charged Youths to close rank as the largest demography of eligible voters to elect the right candidates during the 2023 general election.

The Speaker, made the charge while speaking on this year’s International Youth Day celebration theme, “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for all Ages” during a joint plenary session with Edo and Delta State Youth Parliament, at the State House of Assembly complex.

Rt. Hon Marcus Onobun said the 7th Assembly has passed bills on youth development, Bills that will affect generation to come and have direct impacts on the people.

The Speaker disclosed that the 7th Assembly has taken it upon itself to ensure that Bills and resolutions that have direct impact on the people are been passed.

This he said the House has done with the passage of Bills that will have impact on youth inclusiveness and mainstreaming .

He explained that contrary to news flying around by naysayers, the State House of Assembly has since it’s inception three years ago passed 40 Bills and a great number has been assented to.

Speaking on the theme adopted by Edo State, “resetting the future and empowering the youths” the Speaker said in order to reset the future, youths need to take charge, change the narratives as they have the number to do so .

In his remarks, Deputy speaker, Rt. Hon Roland Asoro said that Bendel State have always been united and they will continue to promote and share ideas that will enhance goodwill and a better Nigeria.

Commissioners for Youth Development for Edo and Delta States Hon Chris Nehikhare and comrade Egwunyenga Michael said they are proud of what the youths have accomplished, adding that the joint plenary is a paradigm shift for both States.

On their part Speakers of the youth parliaments Edo and Delta State, Hon Uwagboe and Hon George lauded the State House of Assembly and appealed for more support.

International Youths day was designated by the United Nations in 1999, as a day that encourages youths to raise awareness on the situation of youths in their countries while youths parliament is to help groom youths in parliamentary procedures.
