Edo Speaker restates commitment towards ensuring speedy passage of any Bill relating to women empowerment and economic stability.

Speaker, Edo state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Marcus Onobun ksc has restated the commitment of the 7th Assembly towards the speedy passage of any Bill which is geared towards the economic growth, empowerment and self sustenance of women.

The Speaker made this commitment , when he received members of a Non Governmental Organization, Echoes of Women in Africa Initiative on an advocacy visit to the House.

Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun said the role of women in societal growth and development cannot be overemphasized, as women are naturally endowed with the power to stabilize situations especially in conflict resolutions.

The Speaker said that as a political party, the People Democratic Party ( PDP) is working to ensure more women are given opportunity to be more in elective positions, while hoping more women win elections into the House of Assembly.

He also commended the State Governor Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki for allowing more women participation in politics and in the State Executive council .

He called on the initiative to hasten and present the Bill on the economic justice for women to the House stressing that it would be given speedy consideration and passage.

Earlier, leader of the group and Executive Director of the initiative, Catherine Duru intimated the Speaker and his team of the plan to present a Bill on economic justice for women as a pilot project in Edo State.

Catherine Duru disclosed that Echoes of Women in Africa Initiative is a Nigerian Human Rights organization promoting peace and security for African women and girls through Social Justice.

On hand during the advocacy visit was the Chief Whip of the House, Rt.Hon. Emmanuel Okoduwa, Director Office of the Speaker, Mr George Aituomun, Director Information and Press Mrs Adesuwa Aideyan, SSA to the Speaker Mr Collins Idiakhoa and Comrade Freeborn Ahanor.
