Edo State House of Assembly has given first reading to a bill for a law to provide the framework for the promotion, coordination, propagation, monitoring, and regulations of investment in Edo State

The Speaker Rt.Hon.Marcus Onobun stated this during the plenary today at the Edo State house of Assembly in Benin City.
Also at the plenary the Speaker said that, the members are working very hard to ensure that they give a speedy consideration to the Bill for a law to establish a cooperate body to be known as “The Edo State signage and advertisement agency” and to confer functions relating to the regulation of outdoor structures and platforms used for the purpose of advertisement in Edo State and other matters connected thereto.

The Speaker said the bill is going through it clause by clause consideration at the committee of the whole ,will be given it 3rd reading as soon as they finish considering all the clauses in the bill inorder for the House to come out with a flawless law .

He further stated, that they have consider the citation clause , the function clause and the regulation and objective clause of the bill which comprises of part one and part two of the bill.

Hon. Marcus Onobun further stated that during the clause by clause consideration,some parts of the section were amended so as to make the bill easy for implementation when it is finally passed into law.

Earlier, at plenary the Speaker also announced that the house was in receipt of three petitions from members of the public and directed that the house committee on public petition should slate each of them for hearing at a later date at the floor of the house.

The Clerk of the House Alhaji Yahaya Omogbai Audu who gave the synopsis of the three petition at the floor of the house ,said that the first petition which was titled intervene on my behalf, was sent by Mr Yahaya Mohammed the petitioner , on the 11th of November 2019 , He prayed that the house intervene on his behalf after he was dismiss from his job on basics of misconduct.

The petitioner, stated that he was attacked on his way from work by gunmen and he was inflicted with injuries which lead him to ask for compensation from his office for payment of hospital bills incurred during his attack.

Mr Yahaya said, it was his demands on his office that lead to his dismissal from work ,that he worked for only 8 years having been employed in 2002 and prayed that the house look into his plight in a bid to reinstate him back to work.

The second petition which was titled Reinstate Mr Eboigbe Fidelix,was signed by Mr Fidelix Eboigbe and was sent to Edo State house of Assembly on 9 of October 2020.

The petitioner Mr Fidelix said he works with the Edo State Post primary Education board until he was relieved if his duty on the 11/11/2001.

He further stated in his petition that his petition was earlier consider on the floor of the house by the house committee on education, he said he was surprised that after due consideration by the house in the past Assembly he didn’t get any positive results hence he is praying that this time, that the house will consider his petition and also resolved the impass between him and his office, Edo State Post primary education board for his reinstatement as a staff of the board.

The Climax of the plenary was the reading of the third petition titled SOS.

The Petitioners includes Mr Charles Akhimien,Ralph Inegbedion among others lamented the inhumanity of pensioners of year 2000 in Edo State.

They further said in their petition that since the year 2000 when they became pensioners, haven served the state with their strength. That they have not been captured in the pensions schemes and that have made Many of them to suffer untold hardship.

They prayed the house to look into their plight in a bid to give to them as senior citizens of the state what they deserved through their contribution to the development of Edo State during their service years.
