Edo State House of Assembly, Passes Haulage Bill; Highlights Achievements In Third Quarter, Third Session.

Edo State House of Assembly today passed a Bill for a Law to establish a single haulage fee on goods, agricultural farm produce, graded and non graded in the State and the administration of charges among other matters.

The House at the committee of a whole considered the Bill for a Law to establish a single haulage fee on goods agricultural farm produce graded and non in Edo State, the administration of charges and for other matters .
This was after consideration of the title, enactment , citation and other parts of the Bill.

Member representing Akoko Edo 2 Hon.Emmanuel Agbaje raised concern that the Bill will impose hardship on farmers and threaten food security.
However, his position was overuled as the Bill scaled through third reading with clean copies directed to be forwarded to relevant authorities for action.

Also, the day’s plenary was an opportunity for the Speaker, Rt.Hon Marcus Onobun to present a scorecard of the achievements of the seventh(7th) Assembly as the third quarter, third session winds down.

The Speaker, who as part of activities for the end of session of the seventh Assembly presented a scorecard of achievements which include the passage of over fifty bills of which forty seven have been assented to by the State government in addition to one hundred and nineteen resolutions including the worsening condition of the Benin-Ekpoma -Auchi-Abuja roads which led to commencement of rehabilitation work on the road .

The House also received the report of it’s standing committee on education on multiple petitions which centred on dismissal of some staff of Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma by the institution’s special intervention team.
Chairman House committee on Education, Rt.Hon Roland Asoro said the committee has interfaced with parties and has come up with findings and recommendations .
Consideration of the report was slated on the next sitting date to enable members study the report.

The member-elect for Igueben Constituency, Barr. Eugene Inegbeboh was among participants who witnessed the plenary proceedings
