The Member representing Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun, has extended warm felicitations to His Royal Highnesses, Barr. Anthony Ehizojie Abumere II, Zaiki Victor Agbonmere Ehizogie, Zaiki Dominic Otokhine,Onojies of Ekpoma, Ogwa and Urohi Kingdoms respectively on the occasion of the 2026 Ihuen festival, describing it as a treasured cultural heritage that embodies the history, identity, and collective pride of the Esan people.

In his goodwill message, the lawmaker emphasized that traditional festivals such as Ihuen remain vital instruments for the preservation and transmission of indigenous values, customs, and ancestral knowledge. According to him, the celebration reinforces communal bonds, promotes intergenerational learning, and safeguards the rich heritage of Esan land against cultural erosion in an increasingly globalized world.
His message reads:
Today, in symbolic rites, traditional music, rhythms, dancing, attires, and royal blessings, the Ihuen festival continues to serve as a living archive of the people’s history and worldview. Beyond its cultural significance, the festivity contributes meaningfully to social harmony and economic vitality, as sons and daughters of the kingdoms return home to reunite with their roots, support local enterprises, and strengthen communal development.
I rejoice with His Royal Highnesses, Zaiki Barr. Anthony Ehizojie Abumere II, Zaiki Victor Agbonmere Ehizogie and Zaiki Dominic Otokhine, Onojies of Ekpoma, Ogwa and Urohhi Kingdoms respectively, chiefs, Egbes, visiting brothers and sisters as well as those domiciled at home for their dedication to ensuring that the sacred customs associated with Ihuen remain authentic and respected through our collective contributions
Our cultural heritage and its elements remains central to our identity as a people-food, clothing, and language. More paramount that we find true oneness in shared similarities and uniqueness in our indistinct dynamic peculiarities
Furthermore, I urge all to uphold the values of peace, unity, and mutual respect throughout the festivities. I pray for safe journeys for all sons and daughters traveling from across Nigeria and the diaspora to be part of the historic celebration, expressing confidence that the event would be marked by joy, orderliness, and divine protection.
Blissful celebration to all of us, MHA AMONGHON..!!!🎉
