
Speaker, Edo state House of Assembly Rt Hon Marcus Onobun ksc has reiterated his burning desire to be a voice for the voiceless,less privileged, youths and women as the main thrust of his campaign to the house of Representatives.
Rt Hon Marcus Onobun made this known when he received the National president of National Association of women journalists , Nawoj ,Mrs Ladi Bala, and the state leadership of the association in his office Wednesday.
The speaker ,stated that the urge to change the narratives for not just okpebholo Federal constituency but the nation in general with laws that would be of great usefulness to the people.
Rt Hon Marcus Onobun explained that with the growing insecurity in the country,there maybe a likely spillover in the area of food shortage.
” As insecurity heightens daily ,it may lead to food shortage ,as Nigerians are been pushed to the wall with the current trend .”
” I would forge relationship with like-minded legislators to put pressure for good governance and credible leadership to Better the lot of the people.”
Rt Hon Marcus Onobun listed laws with gender sensitive issues passed by the house to include the VAP law which protects all especially women. He also disclosed that the house has passed the 44 clause alterations which includes Financial autonomy for the Local government , which will strengthen the third tier of government.
While Responding to requests made ,the speaker promised to assist the association , stressing that as the fourth estate of the realm ,there are a lot of challenges and hazards faced by the women journalists.
He emphasized the need for enlightenment on the Electoral Act ahead the 2023 general elections .
Earlier, the Nawoj National President Mrs Ladi Bala commended the speaker for his leadership qualities and management capabilities which has culminated in a stable legislature in the state.
Mrs Bala said this is what the nation needs instead of recycling leaders at all levels of governance.
The Nawoj President who was accompanied by the state leadership solicited for a vehicle for the state chapter, Training for journalists ahead the 2023 elections on the Electoral Act and hosting of NEC of the association in the state.
On hand to receive the Nawoj delegation were the clerk of the Assembly Alhaji Yahaya Audu-Omogbai, Cheif of staff to the speaker,Hon Blessing Agbebaku , SSA’s to the speaker Mr Collins Ideakhoa and Comrade Freeborn Ahanor.
