Governor Godwin Obaseki presents 320.4 billion naira budget of Resilience and Transformation to Edo State House of Assembly

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki today presented a budget estimate of 320.4 billion naira before the Edo State House of Assembly .

The budget Christened “Budget Of Resilience and Transformation” has 192 billion naira as capital expenditure and 127 billion naira as recurrent expenditure. The figures are based on a seventy dollar per barrel oil benchmark.

Giving a breakdown of the year 2023 estimates Governor Obaseki said
education has 32.9 billion naira, Health 30. 2 billion naira, roads 54.9 billion naira, public buildings 20.5 billion naira
electricity and energy 7.2 billion naira
agriculture 5.4 billion naira and
economy enablers which include technology, youth empowerment other areas 56.1 billion.

The Governor said the budget totalling three hundred and twenty point four billion naira is sixty nine point three percent higher than the 2022 budget stating that the State will spend forty per cent more in 2023 budget to meet it’s obligations.

The governor who reeled out the achievements of his administration in 2022 said the State recorded a GDP growth from 2.4 trillion naira in 2021, 2.5 trillion naira in 2022 and a projection of 2.6. trillion naira in 2023.

The Bill was subsequently accorded its first reading and referred to the House committee on Rules Business and Government House .

In his remark the Speaker , Rt.Hon Marcus Onobun assured of collaboration with relevant stakeholders, ministries departments and agencies to ensure timely consideration of the Bill.

Deputy Speaker, Rt.Hon. Roland Asoro on behalf of members commended the Governor for the development recorded across all sectors of the State economy in the past six years.

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt.Hon. Philip Shaibu, SSG Barr. Osarodion Ogie , Civil Commissioners, Religious and Party leaders were among dignitaries who witnessed the budget presentation.
