HON. MARCUS ONOBUN PAYS TRIBUTES TO NATION’S FALLEN HEROES

Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Marcus Onobun has commended the role of ex- servicemen in protecting the territorial integrity of the country.

The Speaker, who made the remark in an interview with journalists at the 2021 commemoration of Armed forces remembrance day celebration held at the Museum Ground in Oba Ovoramen Square ,Benin City said governments at all levels and the society owes their prayers, support and tributes to the fallen heroes and serving officers and war veterans for their dedication and sacrifice in keeping Nigeria as one indivisible entity .

Hon. Marcus said prioritizing welfare of and harnessing the expertise of ex-servicemen is needed now in view of the prevailing security challenges.

Earlier, Edo State Governor Mr Godwin Obaseki said the state will take advantage of the role of ex-servicemen to boost the state’s security architecture to address security challenges.
Activities to mark the day were a parade by a guard of honor by officers of Nigerian Army , Air force and Nigerian legion,

The Speaker also joined Governor Obaseki at the cenotaph to lay wreath and pay last respect to the fallen heroes .
Edo State Deputy Governor, Com Philip Shaibu, Edo State Chief Judge Justice Esther Edigin and Security Chiefs ,Representative of Oba of Benin, Chairman Nigerian Legion Edo State and Representative of widows of the fallen heroes.

The 2021 Armed Forces remembrance day in Edo state climaxed with the ceremonial 21 gun salute and release of pigeons as a sign of peace by Governor Obaseki flanked by the Speaker and other dignitaries.
