HON. MARCUS . I. ONOBUN AS A LEGISTLATOR SO FAR. At the Inauguration of the House, on Monday, 17th June, 2019, his legislative sagacity was put into action when he nominated RT. HON. IDAIYE YEKINI as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. At the first sitting of the House, Hon. Marcus. I. Onobun was appointed as Deputy Leader of the House, on Tuesday 9th July, 2019. Other appointments given to him in the House are: – Chairman House Services to Oversee Infrastructure / Physical Planning and Urban Development. – Member Selection Committee – Member Tenders Board – Member Environment and Sustainability – Member Sports and Information Committee. – Member Education Committee – Member Local Government and Community Affairs On Thursday 30th July he was appointed to Chair a 3 man Ad-hoc investigative Committee of the House, to determine if due process was followed by Akoko Edo Legislative House in the impeachment of the Vice Chairman of Akoko Edo L.G.A. as well as Etsako West Local Govt. Chairman for negligence of duty etc. MOTIONS. The issue of first timer and its effect never had a negative action on Hon. Marcus, as he was the second Member among his colleagues to move a motion, which the House adopted as a Resolution calling on the Government and Relevant Agencies to urgently tackle the deplorable condition of Benin – Auchi Road and other Federal Highways in Edo State on Monday 26th August, 2019. The result of that Resolution is working, as contactors are on site. Still on Motion, Hon. Marcus .I. Onobun supported and joined a Member coming up with Resolution of the House directing the Federal, State and concerned Agencies to solve the flooding problem in Esan Land, through a matter of urgent public importance he supported. He also moved a Motion on the deplorable and indiscriminate parking condition of the Central Motor Park at the Obakhavbaye, Oredo Local Government Council, Benin City, which had caused serious damage to vehicles. He thereafter called on the State Government to make urgent repairs on the Motor Park. Other Motions he contributed to saw to the House establishing Edo State College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. BILLS. Within a short sphere of time, Hon. Marcus . I . Onobun contributed greatly in the following Bills passed by the House; 1. A Law to repeal the Bendel State Audit Law NO. 10 of 1982 and to provide for the establishment of State Audit Service Commission. 2. A Law to Establish the Edo State College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. 3. Also, he contributed to the Bill establishing the Edo Sports Commission. 4. A Bill to Amend Privatization and Commercialization Law 2000. 5. The Year 2019 Revised Appropriation Bill. 6. The Year 2020 Appropriation Bill. OVERSIGHT FUNCTIONS. Hon. Marcus .I. Onobun has undertaken series of oversight functions, one of which is the project under construction at Ogbemudia Stadium and the Benin Ekpoma – Auchi Road amongst others. Hon. Marcus . I . Onobun is proud to have joined his colleagues to screen and confirm the followings; a. Members of the Local Government Service Commission. b. A substantive Chief Judge of Edo State. c. Members of the Edo State Board of Internal Revenue. d. Members of the Law Review Commission. e. Some Commissioner in the State Executive Council MEDIATION. Hon. Marcus .I. Onobun has mediated between aggrieved Communities and Government, and between former Staff of Edo Line Transport Service and the House. COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENT. Hon. Marcus . I. Onobun was appointed to attend and participate in Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Kampala, Uganda in September, 2019. EMPOWEREMENT PROGRAMME. Hon. Marcus. I. Onobun has empowered many indigent persons in his Constituency; a. By Recommendation for Employment b. Empowerment of Youths and Women to start up Businesses. c. Provision and assistance to the Communities for Electricity Supply. D. Empowerment of youths through Training and mentoring. E. Sponsorship of Sports Activities F. Payment of Jamb.
